It is actually very easy to build a website if you know the basics of Microsoft Word. I spent a lot of time and money looking for a simple solution. All the while it was staring me in the face and I couldn't see it.
If you want to build a website you will need a web host. Any good web hosting package will offer some sort of website building software. Activate that software and look for the WYSIWYG option. WYSIWYG stands for "What You See Is What You Get".
I have purchased several software programs that offer the WYSIWYG option. It never made any sense to me. The instructions said to use it just like you would use Microsoft Word. I know the basics of Microsoft word but I could never figure out how to build a website.
Finally, I bought a package that had videos to show me the micro-steps to build a website. These videos went through the process very quickly for a non-programmer like me, but I caught the "trick".
Here's what no one tells you:
When you build a site you need to build it in what is called a table. So, you click the table button on you WYSIWYG website builder and it will ask you for several different bits of information. All you do is put everything to "1" except the table width. The table width should be between 600 and 650 pixels.
You may also want to specify the table background properties and the table border colours. I just leave everything to white. I have learned that people are comfortable with black type on a white background. If that is all you want, don't specify anything and you will do fine.
The other thing you need to do is to hover your mouse on the table border after you have specified the table properties until you see a 4-way arrow. Click on it then click the button at the top to center the table on the screen. If you don't do that your website will end up to one side of the screen and it won't look good.
After this, it is just like using Microsoft Word. If you want to add an image, click the add image button and specify the image. The program will add it in automatically. If you want a clickable link look for the hyperlink or link button and fill in the form. That's all there is to it if you want to build a website the simple way.
Of course there is a lot to learn if you want to build a website like a professional. But this is enough for you to build a website and start your Internet business.
The other thing to consider is search engine optimization. This is important if you want the search engines to find you and send you free traffic. I'll cover that in another article.
