Interactive Media Design

By: Liam Smart, Thu Nov 2nd, 2006

"I think that 'Interactive Media Design' can not but narrowed down to just one clear meaning. But it maybe the way the human interacts with the software of a device. This means that interface of a design is the most important part of the design because that is what the user interacts with". (Liam Smart, 2002)

From looking into Graphical User Interfaces, I have realised that even this cant be described by single word.

The interface of say a web site, has many different people working on it such as graphic designers, web designers and programmers etc. They work together to create this interface that the user interacts with.

So from exploring the term 'Interactive Media Design', I found myself just opening more and more doors and not really coming up with a clear answer of what it means.

But I feel that Media Design is a form of design that needs many different skilled people, from many different fields of expertise, to interact and work together to create this rectangle called an Interface that has buttons and images, that lures the user to come and Interact and explore deep into the sea's of information and technology.

Now that I am in my final year of the course, my mind still isn't any clearer. But I have learned to accept that you can't give the term 'Interactive Media Design' a dictionary perfect meaning. But for one last time, I am going to try, so here goes...

Interactive Media Design is a melting pot consisting of many different design skills. Therefore Media Designers are adaptive into many design environments.
